DENTAL TERM OF THE WEEK

ABRASION
Loss of tooth structure caused by a hard toothbrush, poor brushing technique, or Bruxism (grinding or clenching the teeth).

This can lead to gum disease.
If this is the case, your dentist will refer you to a Periodontist.

If the cause of abrasion is teeth grinding. Your dentist will most likely recommend a mouth guard. Since most teeth grinding occurs when you are sleeping. A professionally fitted mouthguard is an easy fix to this problem.

To avoid tooth abrasion caused by improper brushing:
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush.
-Don't brush your teeth aggressively
-Choose a toothpaste that helps strengthen enamel

Practice good oral hygiene and see your dental professional regularly!
