MASK MOUTH

As we are all complying with our new reality, issues are arising while wearing masks. One, in particular, is mask mouth.

What this means is that incidents of bad breath and dry mouth are more prevalent.

We do not have a choice in today's world not to wear a mask. Masks are what we need to wear to help protect ourselves and others. We have a moral obligation to do so!

With that in mind. Your team at OCD would like to share some tips on dealing with mask mouth

Tips

  • Make sure your oral health is at its best. Visit your dental professional regularly
  • Practice proper oral hygiene at home
  • Before you put on your mask rinse with a non-alcohol rinse
  • Drink plenty of water when you can. Water is the one natural drink that will keep you hydrated
  • Avoid tea and coffee if possible
  • Try to avoid reaching for lozenges and gum as these contain agents that may contribute to dry mouth
  • Avoid sugary and acidic drinks
  • Have a spare mask to change after a few hours
  • If you can go outside (where it is safe to remove your mask) take in some fresh air

If you are following all of these tips and you are still experiencing oral health issues. Please visit your dentist.

We hope you have found these tips helpful.
