Dental Holidays (Tourism)

Are they worth the risk?

What is a dental holiday?

A dental holiday is a vacation with the main event being dental work.

These holidays are becoming more popular with younger people as influencers and celebrities tout their beautiful smiles on social media platforms.

Cautions for Dental holidays:

*Is the clinic associated with any dental associations (In other words, are they held to any standards) *qualifications of persons performing dental procedures *standards of infection control *standards regarding sterilization techniques *the patient's overall general health concerns *scams - luring patients with false claims *what happens if something goes wrong. You could be left with massive medical bills in a foreign country *are you prepared to stay in the country if complications arise? such as; extended accommodation, prescriptions, transportation, and hospital stays if necessary *your insurance company may not pay for overseas dental care, you need to check this out yourself *post-dental procedure aftercare(what is the plan)?

*no relationship has been established between the dentist and patient *if complications arise are they affiliated with a local hospital

In Ontario, dental services are regulated by the Ontario Dental Association and the Canadian Dental Association. These associations oversee all dental offices. They set policies and regulations that dental offices must follow. This ensured that patients receive the safest and highest quality dental care available.

So is it worth the risk? That is an individual choice. If you decide this is right for you, please do your due diligence. Research, research research!
